The 5th international scientific-practical conference on tuberculosis and lung diseases organized by the Azerbaijan Scientific- Research Lung Diseases Institute has today started here. Director of Azerbaijan Scientific- Research Lung Diseases Institute Eljan Mammadbayov, mission director of The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Michael Green, Chief Medical Office head of Azerbaijan Ministry of Justice Rafael Mehdiyev, head of Georgian National Tuberculosis Program Igor Kalandadze and others made speeches in the opening ceremony.
Eljan Mammadbayov also delivered a report on the service development against tuberculosis in Azerbaijan: achievements and prospects of progress. Exerts from Turkey, Georgia, Ukraine and Russia along with Azerbaijani scientists will make reports and discuss progress achieved in the struggle with tuberculosis, problems, new treatment methods and cooperation.
Representatives of the Global Fund to fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria and the World Health Organization (WHO) are participating in the conference.
