In order to obtain temporary residence permit foreigners and stateless persons can apply to the State Migration Service of the Republic of Azerbaijan at least 22 working days before expiration of the temporary staying or residing period.

Temporary residence permit in the Republic of Azerbaijan can be granted to foreigners and stateless persons in the following cases:

-  Close relationship with the citizen of the Republic of Azerbaijan;

-  Marriage with the citizen of the Republic of Azerbaijan;

-  Investment in the amount of 500.000 AZN in Azerbaijan economy;

-  Deposit in the amount of 50.000 AZN in any banks of Azerbaijan;

- Obtaining work permit to carry out labor activity in the territory of the Republic of Azerbaijan;

-  Full-time education at the universities of the Republic of Azerbaijan;

-  Highly qualified specialist in the fields of economy, industry, defense, culture, sport, science etc.

Foreigners and stateless persons intending to work in the Republic of Azerbaijan can apply to the State Migration Service to obtain work permit for above-mentioned period through the intermediary of their employer.

Temporary residence permit in the Republic of Azerbaijan for labour migrants is issued for validity period of work permit.

Foreigners and stateless persons obtaining temporary and permanent residence permit in the Republic of Azerbaijan legalize their residence and registration at the place of residence on the bases of relevant cards issued by the State Migration Service.

For re-registration foreigners and stateless persons obtained temporary and permanent residence permit, thus extended temporary staying period in the Republic of Azerbaijan must apply to the State Migration Service within 10 days when they move to the new place of residence.

Permit for temporary residence is valid for a period of occurrence of the cases giving basis for granting this permit.

Permanent residence permit (immigrant status) can be granted to the foreigner and stateless person temporary residing in the Republic of Azerbaijan on legal bases at least 2 years.

Foreigners and stateless persons obtaining temporary or permanent residence permit can leave or return to the Republic of Azerbaijan with the relevant card issued by the State Migration Service and the valid identification documents (passport and document confirming the identity of stateless persons).
