Azerbaijan completed the investigation and sent 265 corruption-related criminal cases toward 480 persons committed in the past five years for consideration to the court, head of the Department on Combating Corruption under the Prosecutor General's Office Kamran Aliyev said at the ceremony of presentation of a book "Corruption: the concept , the main specificity and investigation" on five-year activity of Department, Prosecutor General's Office said.
According to Aliyev, 133 criminal cases toward 235 peoples were sent to court in 2009 and during the past period of 2010.
"Criminal cases sent to court were related with bribery, abuse of official duties, abuse of duty, forgery, negligence, plunder of people's property, fraud, and the legalization of criminally acquired money or other property, and extortion by threats," Aliyev said.
According to him, in 2009 increasing number of appeal of citizens to the Department to 324 is is an indicator of improving and strengthening public confidence in public authorities.
Also it should be noted that the first judicial decision on criminal case investigated by the Department and sent to the court under Article 193-1 (legalization of criminally acquired funds) of the Criminal Code was made in our country.
