The Azerbaijani capital is the world center for the dialogue of civilizations, ISESCO Director General Abdulaziz bin Osman al-Tuveirji said in an interview with the Russian Itar Tass news agency.
There is an active cooperation including exchanges and regular organization of events between ISESCO and the CIS countries and Muslim populations - Azerbaijan and the Central Asian republics, Osman al-Tuveirji said.
In Feb. 2009, the ISESCO Secretary General participated in the opening of the ceremony dedicated to the declaration of Baku as "The capital of Islamic Culture - 2009 ".
The Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO) was established upon the initiative of the late King Hassan II of Morocco in 1982 under the Organization of Islamic Conference. The headquarters of the organization, which includes 50 states, located in the Moroccan capital Rabat.
The ISESCO - Azerbaijan cooperation covers all spheres of culture, education and social life.
ISESCO cooperates closely with the Heydar Aliyev Foundation in terms of supporting development of education and culture in Azerbaijan.
First Lady of Azerbaijan, President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador Mehriban Aliyeva was awarded the high title of Goodwill Ambassador of ISESCO for contribution to convergence of civilizations.
Mrs. Aliyeva is the first woman to receive this title.
