Ilgar Nasibov, convicted reporter of Azadlyg radio, appealed to the European Court of Human Rights.
The due announcement was made by a source from the Institute for Rights of Media.
The appeal, sent to the European Court, states the necessity to recognize the fact of violation of his rights, demands compensation for unfounded arrest and violation of articles 10 and 6 of the European Convention of Human Rights.
It should be noted that in November of 2007 Ilgar Nasibov and his wife, reporter Malahat Nasibova were subjected to pressure and abuse while preparing a report on the destruction of one of the trade centers in Nakhchivan. In this connection he sent a letter to the e-mail of the president's website.
Head of the Nakhchivan police Sabuhi Novruzov considered the phrases, used in this appeal. to be a libel and appealed to the city prosecutor's office. The prosecutor's office in turn sent the case to the court, in the result of which Nasibov was sentenced to three months of imprisonment for libel (article 147).
He was conditionally sentenced to one year by decision of the Appellate Court and released in the court hall on December 10.
