The Yale and Columbian Universities of the United States issued a rating of countries "Environmental Performance Index 2008", in which Azerbaijan is 80th among 149 countries.

According tote Azadlyg radio, the rating has been worked out by six parameters and estimated on the 100 point scale.

Azerbaijan got 72.2 points.

Thus, the authors of the researches assessed the countries for the state of environment, quality of air, situation with water reserves, biological diversity, effectiveness of natural resources and climatic changes.

Azerbaijan's indicators are as follows:

State of environment-76.4;
Quality of air-66.2;

Situation with water reserves-53.6;
Biological diversity-29;

Effectiveness of natural resources-85.7;

Climatic changes-77.1.

The first ten were Switzerland, Sweden, Norway, Filand, Costa-Rica, Austria, New Zealand, Latvia, Columbia, France.

The best situation among the CIS states was in Russia, which occupied the 28th place with 83.9 points, Georgia was 27th with 82.2 points and Armenia 62nd with 77.8 points.

The worst indicators among the CIS states were those of Turkmenistan, Moldova, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan.

Niger with 39.1 points rounds the list.
