Sebayil Court presided over by Judge Yusif Kerimov has started the trial of editor-in-chief of Senet newspaper Samir Sedagetoglu and publicist Rafig Tagi.
Defense lawyer Isakhan Ashurov demanded to change court composition saying the defendants' rights have been violated. After the brief, the court dismissed the solicitation noting it is groundless. Accused Sedagetoglu's father Sedaget Huseynov refused to give testimony to the court. The court did not accept the refusal, and noted that this issue will be considered later. Then Public Prosecutor Farhad Rehimov announced accusation act. Rafig Tagi in his testimony to the court noted that he did not intend to insult Islam and Prophet Muhammad (s), and he grew up in the circle of religious men. "I just only wanted to compare life conditions between Europe and East. I apologize again to my Muslim brothers," he said. Rafig Tagi's thoughts have faced the protests of some religious men in the courtroom. The trial will continue on April 13. Rafig Tagi and Samir Sedagetoglu are accused under Article 283 (provoke national, racial and religious hostility) of Criminal Code. They were sentenced to two months, but after a while the period has been prolonged. APA
