Human rights defenders Chingiz Ganizade and Saadat Bananyarli today met with the prisoners going on hunger strike in Gobustan jail, Chingiz Ganizadeh told.
He said that ten prisoners started hunger strike on March 27 continue the action and their only demand is to commute their life sentence to 15-year of imprisonment. Ganziade said that the prisoners are not dissatisfied with detention conditions, APA reports. "We support them. If life sentence has been abolished, life sentence should be commuted to 15-year imprisonment," he said. The rights defenders asked the prisoners to stop the hunger strike. Ganizade noted that the prisoners told them that they will make a concrete decision after discussing this proposal. "We told them that we will draw attention of the Council of Europe to this problem while visiting Strasbourg and continue negotiations with relevant bodies," he said.
