Trial on case of former Health Minister Ali Insanov and ten more defendants accused of embezzlement, abuse of power and bribery started today at Azerbaijan's Court of Grave Crimes. The sitting is presided over by Judge Faig Gasimov.
Lawyer for Ali Insanov Agayev Shahverdi solicited to the court and asked to add audio and video recordings of the process to the protocol of criminal case. Judge Gasimov allowed the lawyer’s solicitation. Then, he solicited to the court to present arguments. He asked to demonstrate recordings taken at Ali Insanov's and his relatives' houses. After short term brief court staff noted that the solicitation is not allowed. The lawyer solicited again. The first part of his solicitation demanded the court to present the Insanov's tax declarations, folders, and extracts from personal accounts from Taxes Ministry, list of establishments privatized in Health Ministry from Economic Development Ministry, President's Office and The Cabinet of Ministers and Insanov's interrogation protocol dated on October 20, 2005. The second part of the solicitation asked the court to call authorized persons on privatization –the chief of State Committee on Management of State Property Karam Hasanov and former Economic Development Minister Farhad Aliyev to the court. The first part of the solicitation was allowed. At his last solicitation the lawyer asked to separate the accusations on waste of public asserts worth AZN88b from others. The solicitation was not allowed. The trial will be continued in the second part of the day. Former chief of Health Ministry pharmacology and medical equipment department Akif Maharramov, officers of the department Eldar Rzayev, Haji Aliyev, Shovgi Jafarov, former chief of the Ministry's international relations department Aleksandr Umnyashkin, former chief of the medical service department Vekil Abbasov, other officers of the ministry Fakhraddin Abbasov, Parviz Kazimov, Anar Namazov and Fuad Mahmudov are in the courtroom. Ali Insanov embezzled great amount of state properties, APA reports. Ali Insanov has transferred three hospitals, four polyclinics, one clinics, one institute, one center and drug-store, five enterprises and land areas of the institutions, generally 16 establishments to his son Vidadi Insanov, daughter Ayla Shtele (Aliyeva) and his nephew Anar Namazov. The tried former officials face charges of embezzlement, abuse of power and bribery. Public prosecutors are Kamran Aliyev and Chingiz Shukurov.
