A reporting conference on overall results of 2006 was held in Baku Main Police Office on Thursday.

BMPO chief lieutenant-general, Maharram Aliyev stated that 8276, as well as 879 heavy crimes were registered in the capital. He said the number of crimes raised by 13.9% and 16.7% compared with 2005. 49.3% of the crimes are less grievous, 40.1% of causing great public danger and 10,6% are grievous crimes.

"According to the investigations, beating, swindle, robbery of copper conductors from lifts caused the increase of the crimes. The efforts to kill were reduced from 38 to 30, rapes from 12 to 11, car accident resulted in deaths from 313 to 304 and swindle from 537 to 510. The number of deliberate murders remained stable, 70 facts," he said.

Maharram Aliyev said that collecting illegal arms, explosives from the people also continued last year. 465 fire-arms were collected last year, 24 of which were submachine guns, 145 pistols,11 grenade cup discharger, 185 carabins and rifles. 163 grenades, over 19 000 cartridges were collected and delivered to Interior Ministry Supply Department.

BMPO chief also said that 1128 cases on drugs were registered last year, APA reports.
