A meeting within the framework of the U.S. Agency for International Development's (USAID) Civil Society Project was held September 28 at the International Press Center.

The aim of the meeting was to bring together leaders from government, business, and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to build consensus on policy reform initiatives by identifying issues of mutual concern and priority.

The project implemented by the US NGO Counterpart International has involved 8 local NGOs.

Civil Society Project Deputy Director Mrs. Indira Amiranashvili gave information about the project and touched upon the work done.

Senior advisor of the department for socio-political issues of the Presidential Administration Elman Pashayev dwelt on the policy pursued by President Ilham Aliyev to develop democracy, including civil society in Azerbaijan. He pointed out that President Ilham Aliyev reaffirmed at the Berlin Bertelsmann-2006 forum that democracy is a priority for Azerbaijan.

E. Pashayev said Azerbaijan Government closely cooperates on this matter with international organizations, including the USAID.
