Iranian intelligence service strengthened the control over the cities in the northern territory of the country for preventing the September 23 protest actions of Azerbaijanis who demand the rights to get education in their native language, Seid Neimi, South Azerbaijan Committee to Defend Political Prisoners' Rights stated.
He said about ten Azerbaijani activists were arrested and taken to isolated ward of the intelligence bodies. They are said to be the organizers of the protest actions to boycott schools. They were arrested without any official claim. Said Neimi said Iranian government is afraid of the boycott to rise to mass protest and instructed schools administration to get in touch with the families of the pupils. He also said that Iranian Education Ministry appealed to Azerbaijanis, APA reports. "Education Ministry asked Azerbaijani parents not to be provoked and send their children to schools on September 23," he said.
