Editor-in-chiefs Union held a meeting in connection with Azadlig newspaper’s correspondent Sakit Zahidov's arrest.

Azadlig editor-in-chief Ganimat Zahid said that he was informed of the arrest at 12:00 at night. He claims that Sakit was spied for some days and then arrested him.

"We can't retain a lawyer for him for two days because the next two days are day-off. As far as I know he didn't testified."

Zahid also said that if Sakit is found guilty, he can be sentenced to 12 years in jail. Ganun magazine editor-in-chief Shahbaz Khuduoglu said that a lawyer should be retained soon.

He also suggested going to Narimanov Police department ands meet him.

Rights defender Novella Jafaroglu thinks it is better to appeal to the president. "Editor-in-chiefs should appeal to the president, because this problem should be solved immediately."

Novella Jafaroglu said that they appealed to all international organizations. In the end the editor-in-chiefs decided to go to police department.

Ganimat Zahid told APA that they were not allowed to meet with Sakit. The ward officer also refused to meet them.

He also said that press council chairman Aflatun Amashov will meet with Interior Minister today and discuss the problem.
