Noeleen Heyzer, Executive Director of the United Nations Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM), will visit Azerbaijan May 23-27 to discuss future cooperation in implementation of gender priorities under the country's Poverty Reduction Strategy and National Action Plan.

According to AssA-Irada, Ms. Heyzer is visiting the country upon the invitation of the Azerbaijani Government and with support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and State Committee for Family, Women and Children Issues, UNIFEM said.

Heyzer will meet with President Ilham Aliyev, government officials, parliamentarians, civil society, UN agencies and partners in the international community, to discuss collaboration and partnerships to advance gender equality in the country.

Heyzer will also take part in an open discussion of findings of the 2005 UNIFEM Global Report "Progress of the World's Women 2005: Women, Work and Poverty" in Baku.

UNIFEM is the women's fund at the United Nations, providing financial support and technical assistance to innovative programs promoting women's human rights, their economic and political empowerment, and gender equality in more than 100 countries.
