The Conference of the trade unions of SOCAR submitted proposals on solution of the strike situation in American McDermott Caspian Contractors.
"The representatives of the conference met with strikers on Monday and concluded that there were facts of discrimination of Azerbaijani employees," Jahangir Aliyev, the head of the conference, told Trend.
According to Chingiz Tagiyev, the chief of the Social and Econimic Interests Protection Division, the demands of oil workers are justified. "The Company would not meet with similiar situation if the rights of the worklers were protected," he added. Tagiyev regards prolongation of workday at expense of night shift as unexpidient, as there is high risk for safety during that time. "The employees are not insured and it complicates the situation. The rights of workers are in all civil countries, the same must be done in Azerbaijan” he added.
The head of McDermott met with a group of worker representatives to discuss the issues raised by them on November 22. As a result of the consultations with AIOC and SOCAR, McDermott proposed to give premium in the amount of one monthly wage for successful completion of the project on construction of the upper structure of the Western Azeri platform.
The administration of "McDermott" promised to meet the demands of the workers. The company promised to raise salaries of the local workers for 20% by 1 December, pay bonuses in the amount of the monthly salaries and solve the insurance problems by the end of December. The workers determined to stop the strike for the time being, however, according to representative of the workers E.Abdulrashidov, the workers have lost their confidence in the administration of the company and they will go on strike if the promises are not kept.
