The Armenian Armed Forces opened fire at
positions of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces located in the Gizilhajili and
Ashaghi Eskipara villages of Gazakh region from the positions located
in the villages of Berkaber of Ijevan region and Voskepar of Noyemberyan
region on November 10-11, the Azerbaijani Defence Ministry reported.
Azerbaijani Armed Forces were also fired at from the positions
located near the village of Garakhanbeyli of Fizuli region and from the
positions on nameless heights in the territory of Khojavend region.
The shooting was countered by return fire.
Armenia captured Nagorno-Karabakh and seven surrounding districts
from Azerbaijan in a war that followed the Soviet breakup in 1991. More
than 20,000 Azerbaijanis were killed and nearly 1 million displaced by
the war.
Large-scale hostilities ended with a Russia-brokered ceasefire in
1994 but Armenia has continued the occupation in defiance of four UN
Security Council resolutions calling for immediate and unconditional
withdrawal.
Peace talks mediated by Russia, France and the US have produced no results so far.
