Six people were injured and 30 people appealed for medical aid as a result of an earthquake in Azerbaijan's north-west region of Balaken, Chairman of Balaken Region Emergency Situations Commission, Azad Balayev told Trend on Monday.

He said no one died as a result of the earthquake.

Balayev said that residential houses, social facilities and a number of schools damaged as a result of the earthquake. At present, facilities affected by the earthquake are being assessed.

Balaken region is situated in north-west of Azerbaijan in 435 km from Baku.

One died in the earthquake in the north-west of Azerbaijan on October 14, head physician of Balaken Central Hospital Hajiomar Nuriyev told APA. He said resident of Kortala village ZInadova Khajabanu Mahammad, 76, who fell down and got brain injury, was hospitalized.

She died in hospital at night. Nuriyev also said that they received 40 calls, 5 were hospitalized following the quake. Most of them were hospitalized for stress.

Several quakes hit north-west regions of Azerbaijan. The quake was felt more in Balaken and Zagatala. Balaken region executive power told APA that the earthquake shocks were strong, people left their houses and work. No destructions were reported.
Republic Seismological Service reported six quakes in the north-west regions of Azerbaijan yesterday.

A magnitude 7.0 earthquake occurred at 15:13 local time on Sunday from 30km west of Azerbaijan`s Zagatala region, in the border of Balakan with Georgia.

According to the Seismological Service of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, the magnitude 6.0 quake was felt in Zagatala and Balakan, while 5.0-3.0 quake in Ganja, Mingachevir, Shaki, Shamakhi, Gakh, Yevlakh and Gabala. No casualties have been reported.
