Automatic translation of Google search system makes serious errors in the translation of texts into Russian.

According to some observations, translation errors sometimes bear absurd nature, when translation of the name of the city of Baku in separate texts is given as Istanbul, and Azerbaijan is automatically translated as Turkey.

Raed Alekperli, technical director of Internet backbone of Azerbaijan’s Delta Telecom, says that content of such search systems as Google, formed at the expense of interactive users.

"Translations of Google Translate provide an opportunity for commenting the quality and content of the translation, and various users can use such an opportunity differently. So, our ill-wishers can enter false information in the translation comment on translation in a particular context of the name of Baku city as Istanbul, and then subsequent users can naturally face with the result of such correction of translations. Besides, initially translation into Azerbaijani language in this system was based on translation into Turkish, which may also be the cause of these errors remaining in the system. In order to avoid such cases Azerbaijani users need to be more active and to participate in forming the content on our country. When identifying such errors, one should take the opportunity to comment on the translation and make the correct version of translation of Azerbaijani words and place names, and it concerns not only Google Translate, but also Google Maps and other search engine services," he emphasized.
