The Archeology and Ethnography Institute of the Azerbaijani National Academy of Sciences (ANAS) discovered in Agsu artifacts related to the Sassanid period, Shamakhi-Agsu Archeological Expedition group leader Akif Guliyev said.
He said there was found a Sasanian soldier, which presumably relate to the 5th century. The warrior had a glass jar in one hand , iron sword on his belt and Sasanian drachmas (coins). Guliyev said earlier in Azerbaijan only two in two places - in the Shirvan region and Goylar village in the Shamakhi region were discovered artifacts of the Sassanid period. The most ancient coins found in Azerbaijan last year refer to the period of the Byzantine Emperor Constantine.
