Azerbaijan`s Ministry of Emergency Situations and the UN Development Program signed an agreement on project for integrating climate change risks into water and flood management in the Greater Caucasus region of Azerbaijan approved by Global Environment Facility (GEF). The agreement was signed at the meeting between Azerbaijani Minister of Emergency Situations Kamaladdin Heydarov and UN Resident-Coordinator in Azerbaijan Fikret Akchura.

During the conversation, Heydarov hailed bilateral ties between the Ministry and UNDP, saying importance of further boosting ties. In turn, the UNDP representative expressed assurance that the joint efforts towards deepening cooperation between the sides would continue.

The funding from the GEF complements US$ 30,000 contributed by UNDP to develop a comprehensive project to address climate caused problems in the North-Western regions of Azerbaijan and enhance capacities of national agencies and local authorities to deal with water-related problems.
