The Communications and IT Ministry of Azerbaijan is doing everything necessary to improve the sustainability of information resources to cyber threats, deputy minister of Communications and Information Technologies of Azerbaijan Elmir Valizadeh said on Thursday.

Mr Valizadeh said that cyber-attacks made earlier in the governmental and public Internet resources of Azerbaijan are a warning which led to reconsidering the work done in the field of building systems of information security and taking the necessary steps to improve performance.

The hacker attack was carried out on January 16. Information resources at various departments, public organisations and mass media, located on the servers of Information and Computing Centre of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technologies of Azerbaijan and the Special State Protection Service of Azerbaijan were attacked.

"The problem of information security is it is global and requires a comprehensive approach by which institutional, legal and technical issues should be resolved. In addition, the technical readiness of public and private enterprises and, of course ordinary users should be at a high level," Mr Valizadeh said.

"The issue of establishing a national centre of information security which will be commissioned in the near future, is on the agenda today," Mr Valizadeh said.

Symantec Security Information Manager (SSIM), which allows it to monitor all the processes occurring in the network, providing rapid decisions aimed at curbing the negative aspects, is being introduced in the Ministry of Communications and Information Technologies of Azerbaijan, director on sales at Symantec in Kazakhstan, Central Asia and the Caucasus, Alexander Yakunin told Trend previously.

The National Information Security Centre will track the status of the network infrastructure to inform users about new threats and measures and how to counteract them as well as support organisations in case of violation of their security, etc.

The project, which is planned to be implemented in Azerbaijan, involves the creation of a data centre with special services of tracking and issuing a timely response to potential threats.
