US backs the South Corridor, Richard L. Morningstar, the Secretary of State's Special Envoy for Eurasian Energy, said at the “The Caspian's Changing Role in Global Energy” forum held at the Washington-based Central Asia-Caucasus Institute. He expressed confidence that this route would be built.

According to him, the US Department of State is ready to support either of the following export pipelines – Nabucco, Italy-Turkey-Greece Interconnector (ITGI )and Trans-Adriatic Pipelines (TAP).

Morningstar pointed out investors are pondering over search of additional gas sources from Azerbaijan in order to fully use the potential of Nabucco pipeline, which is the largest one. Turkey-Azerbaijan gas supply deals give grounds to be upbeat towards the South Corridor.

Speaking at the event, Brenda Shaffer, Associate Professor, School of Political Sciences, University of Haifa, touched upon the important role of Caspian energy resources in the energy security infrastructure.

According to her, there is a link between signing Turkey-Armenia protocols and Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. She called on the Obama administration to pay more attention to the security in the region.
