Turkey's prime minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan has emphasized the importance of a high-level strategic cooperation council his country is going to establish together with Azerbaijan.

Mr Erdogan and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev signed a declaration to set up the council on the sidelines of a summit of Turkic-speaking countries` heads of state in Istanbul two weeks ago.

In his address to the nation, the Turkish Premier said: “We signed with my esteemed brother Ilham Aliyev a declaration to set up a high-level strategic cooperation council between Turley and Azerbaijan.”

“And I told the signing ceremony that there are no two countries across the world which have such close relations like Azerbaijan and Turkey do. And I also want to emphasize that we believe that the new council will contribute to elevating the cooperation between our countries to a higher level.”

Mr Erdogan also stressed the importance of the Istanbul summit, expressing confidence it would serve to strengthen and deepen relations among Turkic-speaking countries.
