Israel sent a formal letter of apology to Turkey on Wednesday after Turkey threatened to recall its ambassador over a public dressing down earlier this week, Israeli officials said.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said in a statement he hoped "the matter has been resolved" after he coordinated the wording of a letter with a deputy minister whose televised meeting with Turkey's envoy had sparked the diplomatic dispute.
