German Chancellor Angela Merkel officially confirmed Sunday evening that she would run for chancellor again, Sputnik International reported.

"I have today told the National Board [of the Christian Democratic Union of Germany Party Merkel belongs to, CDU] that I am ready to present my candidature for the position of chancellor again," Merkel said at a press conference.

The project of the resolution for the next CDU party session scheduled for December 5-7 will be prepared later on Sunday.

The chancellor in Germany is chosen following the results of the parliamentary election. Either the winning party or a coalition can propose a candidate.
