The first meeting of foreign ministers from Eastern Partnership program (EaP) countries is slated for December, 2009, EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus Peter Semneby told reporters during his Azerbaijan visit.

Semneby also spoke of the prospects for the EU Eastern Partnership program. According to the diplomat, the Association Agreements with Eastern Partnership countries will be signed after the negotiations only.

For now, the next step is to secure a mandate to launch talks with the Eastern partnership countries.

The talks will commence next year and take a year or a year an half, the diplomat said.

“The Eastern Partnership will be under jurisdiction of a new representative for foreign affairs and security. The appointment will come following a Lisbon summit,” he said.
