The cooperation between Azerbaijan and NATO has been laid in the
framework of the Partnership for Peace program on May 4, 1994.
Azerbaijan was one of the OSCE 27 member states that was among the
first to become participants in the program.
In April 1996, an official document of the program "Partnership for
Peace" was signed to identify specific areas of collaboration.
Currently, in accordance with the program, Azerbaijan has entrusted to
it by some 50 partnership goals.
On August 3, 2005, the Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev signed a
decree "on approval of the Action Plan for individual partnership of
Azerbaijan with NATO."
The cooperation is carried out in the second phase of the "Action
Plan for Individual Partnership of the Republic of Azerbaijan with
NATO."
