"My opinion regarding the "Armenian genocide" of 1915 has not changed but I intend to continue to facilitate the process of normalization of Armenian-Turkish relations", said U.S. President Barack Obama, during a joint press conference with President of Turkey Abdullah Gul, according to Hurriyet.
"I do not want to focus on my views on this issue. Currently the relations between the Armenian and Turkish peoples are more important. The normalization process between the two countries needs to progress and the international community should contribute to this", said the U.S. president.
In turn, Abdullah Gul reiterated Turkey's readiness to recognize the historical facts. "We have proposed to establish a joint Armenian-Turkish commission to investigate the 1915 events. Historical facts should not be carried over into the political arena which is done by the Armenian diaspora", said the Turkish President.
