The position of the Azerbaijani state, based on national interests, has been outlined President Ilham Aliyev, said Elshad Iskenderov, secretary general of the OIC youth forum and ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary of Azerbaijan, speaking of Azerbaijan's reaction on the improvement of the Turkish-Armenian relations and possible opening of the Turkish-Armenian relations.
"First, as before, Azerbaijan will act on the basis of its national interests and not external messages or pressures like always when changes occurred in the region and around it.
Second, the national interests of Azerbaijan require that the issue of opening the borders (which were a closed because of Armenian aggression) was associated with the termination of the Armenian occupation of Karabakh. Third, all our resources, from the political to economic ones will be used specifically for the realization of everything that meets our national interests. And the President of Azerbaijan did not only voice the thesis but is also actively taking external political steps, that are adequate to the new realities in the region", said he.
As for the relations between our peoples, he said Azerbaijanis and Turks are two fraternal people for they have a common culture, language, traditions and moral values and the attempts of the pro-Armenian powers to use the situation to damage relations between our peoples have no perspective.
Speaking about the reaction of the Turkish public to the positions of the Azerbaijani leadership, Elshan Iskenderov said:
"More than 90 percent of all survey respondents opposed the opening of the borders without reference to the settlement of the Karabakh conflict".
Moreover, he immediately after the Azerbaijani position was voiced the statements regarding the interconnection of the aforementioned processes were made on the highest level in Ankara.
But not only Turkey but also the whole of the world understands that the position of President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev is logical, the only true one and has no alternative. It is based on the fundamental principles of international relations - the principle of sovereign equality and reciprocity of relationships. President has proved once again that the national interests of the country are most important for him and he is ready to defend them regardless of any external factors.
The direct involvement of such a superpower as the United States is undoubtedly significant external factor. At the same time, if we approach to this issue from a historical point of view, the actions of President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev at a key segment of our modern history are of great importance for the formation of national identity of Azerbaijanis, as a self-sufficient nation.
Once again this confirmed the thesis laid out a national leader H. Aliyev, that can be stated in a single sentence: in sincere relationship we are loyal partners and friends to anyone, who wants to be friends with us, but Azerbaijani people will never have an "elder brother" once again.
