The world community must learn about the genocide Armenians committed in Baku on March 31, 1918, Azerbaijani parliament's Human Rights Commission chair Rabiyyat Aslanova said to Trend News.

"International law must be applied. Unfortunately, organizations who claims they are guided by international law principles are indifferent of the fact of genocide," Aslanova said.

On March 31, Azerbaijan marks the Day of the Azerbaijani Genocide.

In March 1918, Stepan Shaumyan's Dashnak-Bolshevik government seized power and launched a genocide against the Azerbaijani people. In March to April, ethnic Azerbaijanis were slaughtered in Baku, Shamakhi and other regions. During the period, Turkey offered assistance to Azerbaijan and rescued the people from being killed by Armenians.

March 31 commemorates the tragic events that took place in recent Azerbaijani history.

Azerbaijan marks March 31 as genocide under the decree signed by national leader Heydar Aliyev in 1998.

Aslanova said discussions and certain measures by international organizations are not enough.
"Because international community does not assess the genocide in a proper way," she added.

"We must get parliaments worldwide to discuss violence Armenians committed in Baku. Our chief goal is to inform parliaments about the core of the issue with the help of friendship groups," Aslanova added.

She said the genocide can be made public by launching Web sites and sending letters to international organizations and parliaments. "The books and documents on Armenian violence must be translated into different languages," she said.
