The essence of reforms conducted by president Ilham Aliyev and supported by the majority of the population aim to build a development and democratic society in the country, able not to allow the appearance of a negative politician or usurpation of powers, said head of the presidential administration of Azerbaijan Ramiz Mehtiyev in his interview to Russian Izvestiya newspaper, answering the question about the expediency to remove limits on presidential terms.
"I would like to quite President Ilham Aliyev: "We consider that the future of our country will depend on the modernization of our society". Creation of a developed civil society based on economic prosperity, strengthening of the democratization process and construction of a jural state are not just slogans or intentions. This is the main provision for the development of Azerbaijan", said Mehtiyev.
According to him, today Azerbaijan is entering a new stage. We are not the same country we used to be 10 years ago. We have changed and we change the attitude towards ourselves. Today Azerbaijan is not only a reliable and equal partner, but also an effective and quality ally, a friend and a neighbor, said he,
"Our strategic relations are forming a regional agenda. Therefore, issues put on referendum meet our overall development, global and local processes and create conditions for successful modernization of the country. Much has changed through 13 years after adoption of the working Constitution: new achievements appeared along with new challenges and threats. Certainly, changes to the Constitution bear the traces of time and embody the essence of development that we have attained.
I am confident that the future modernization in Azerbaijan depends on the stability of the course, including awareness of the inevitability of some compromises, concessions and compensations. Certainly, it is impossible to settle all problems in a socially unequal society so fast in a short period of time. Country's modernization is a hard and multi-aspect work for all public forces, intended for generations, while the next decade will define its nature. The essence of modernization lies in a total democratic transformation of the Azerbaijani public, which in turn excludes any usurpation of powers by anyone", concluded Mehtiyev.
