"I have never witnessed such a democratic court examination in Azerbaijan. Petitions of barristers were granted and positions of the sides considered, which means a real court examination", chairman of the Democratic Party of Azerbaijan Sardar Jalaloglu said commenting on the court examination, conducted in the Nasimi district court regarding his claim.
He said the court examination is based on the resolution of the European Court on Human Rights, which demanded to check his claim about torturing him after arrest for participation in October 15-16, 2007 events.
He said the examination is nearing completion and the court will pass a resolution based on facts.
"If the fact of torture is proven, prosecutor's office will institute a criminal proceeding into the case. Otherwise, I will appeal to other judicial instances. Today, I am pleased with the process of court examination. Even the judge tried to be unbiased".
S.Jalaloglu voiced hope that if such practice is applied in other courts "we will be able to learn what a democratic court is".
