Riot police stormed the office of the U.S. news agency Associated Press in the Turkish capital on Monday after a leftist association occupied it demanding improved conditions at prisons in Turkey, witnesses said.
Riot police with shields moved in after throwing tear gas into the office in the centre of Ankara. Some 29 members of the left-wing Solidarity Association of Prisoners' Families (TAYAD) were detained, witnesses said. There were no immediate reports of injuries. Earlier AP reporter Suzan Fraser said by telephone TAYAD had refused to allow staff, including several reporters, to leave. Reuters
