Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Matt Bryza met with Georgian Prime Minister Zurab Noghaideli at the State Chancellery today, discussing the energy situation and the problem of Georgian-Russian relations, including Georgia's conflict regions.

'We talked about the energy situation, how effectively the Georgian government has taking care of its most critical energy needs, for example, Georgian government is on a very strong position on electricity, it is actually explrting electricity, which is the first time in years that I have ever heard that. It's quite an achievement As for gas, Prime Minister and the entire government are working on alternative suppliers and I know from my own consultations that Azerbaijan as well as Turkey are committed to working to Georgia to make this winter a calm one. Last winter Georgian government made it through fine without asking financial assistance from the U.S. or west,' Matt Bryza said, adding they also discussed situation in Georgia's conflict regionsm agreeing that the the whole international community shoudl find long term, i.e. political solution to the problems.

Bryza will held a news conference at 15:00 today, where he will reportedly talk about the results of his visit to Tbilisi. Later today, the U.S. official will meet with Georgian president and UN and OSCE missions. Matt Bryza will arrive in Sokhumi, Abkhazia tomorrow. Rustavi2
