Iran's vice-president resigned over differences with President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad following the president's decision to promote federalism in Iran.

Farhad Rahbar, who also acted as head of the Planning and Budget Organization (PBO), resigned from his post and was replaced by the 49-year-old Amir-Mansur Borqei, who had previously served as deputy energy minister.

An internal dispute had broken out last month in Iran over Ahmadinejad's new policies promoting federalism, the Fars news agency reported Thursday.
