The October 6 municipal by-elections in Azerbaijan were held with violations, so the ballot cannot be considered democratic, deputy head of the Musavat opposition party Arif Gajily told Interfax on Monday.
"As far as we know, the municipal by-elections were not democratic and the results were falsified," he said. The party has been informed about the deliberate lengthening of voters' lists, Gajily said. "We received various information about the deliberate lengthening of voters' lists at some polling stations, while people showed little interest in the elections and had no confidence in ballots as such because of the sweeping electoral falsifications in Azerbaijan. As soon as the party receives complete information from the regions, we will make a statement," he said. Musavat had 23 candidates in the October 6 elections. Meanwhile, the opposition Party of National Independence said it would not recognize the outcome of municipal by-elections in some regions. "Bearing in mind numerous violations, the party says that the elections are not democratic and does not recognize their results," party spokesman Ali Orujev told Interfax. Interfax
