Co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group Mathew Bryza (US), Bernard Fasier (France) and Yuri Merzlyakov (Russia), who are mediating in the settlement of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict, will visit Azerbaijan on October 2 this year, Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry spokesman Tahir Taghizadeh told.

The co-chairs are expected to meet with President Ilham Aliyev and Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov.

Russian co-chair Yuri Merzlyakov told the APA they will visit Armenia after that on 3 October. However, he diplomat did not make public the issues and proposals to be discussed with the parties.

Armenian Foreign Minister Vardan Oskanian told a press conference today that the co-chairs' visit to the region was agreed during recent meeting in New York.

"After the consultations with the co-chairs it will be possible to speak of a new meeting of the Armenian and Azerbaijani FMs," he said. At that he remarked that since the meetings with Mammadyarov produce no proper results, they become unnecessary. After the GUAM's initiative on the "frozen conflicts" in the UN, the situation has changed and meetings lost sense.

An initial document and some agreements are essential for talks. It makes no sense to meet for no particular reason, the Minister said.
