President Ilham Aliyev on September 27 at Presidential Palace received the delegates of meeting of the heads of border departments' working group of the International Border Issues Conference (SIOFOK Conference).
President of Azerbaijan said the Conference is of great importance for the country and Azerbaijan attaches big significance to cooperation in the field of security. In the period when the world encounters terrorism and drug trafficking, protection of borders becomes more necessary, the President noted. And "therefore, cooperation of the border services is very important for common safety." Head of the Azerbaijan State said the border of every country is 'gate for cooperation'. "This gate is always to be open to friends and good-will people. Sometimes, these gates become potential threat source; therefore, only international safety measures can prevent such threats." President Aliyev appreciated the participation at the Conference of representatives from many countries, as well as from the European Union states as positive case, noting that border service experience is of special importance for Azerbaijan. In soviet times, Azerbaijan had borders only with Iran and Turkey. After gaining independence, our country obtained new neighbors. And this, willy-nilly, necessitated safety measures. The Head of the Azerbaijan State, informed, from this point of view, on serious measures the government of Azerbaijan undertakes to create border service infrastructures. Noting that the Azerbaijan border service is enough strong and is improving day by day, the President said that every country's safety begins from its borders. "The border services of all countries have to closely cooperate to provide full security of borders in the dramatic condition caused by terrorism," the President emphasized. "They should have mutual data exchange. Only as a result of such cooperation, it is possible to achieve full safety in Europe and world." Speaking on behalf of the meeting participants, chief of the Germany Federal Border Protection Udo Burkholder said the delegation had visited the tomb of the nationwide leader of Azerbaijan Heydar Aliyev. "The border personnel belong to a common family," he marked. "Azerbaijani frontier guards have special place in this family. The Azerbaijan Border Service usefully cooperates with other countries' border structures." /AzerTAg/
