A strategic forum "Caspian Outlook 2008" took place on August 27 - 28 in Bled, Slovenia.
Geopolitical and energy security of Europe, political development and economic tendencies of the Caspian basin and its importance for the EU; the Middle Eastern crisis and its possible influence on the stability in the Caspian region, as well as other directions of the European neighbourliness policy were discussed at the forum. The forum participants stressed in their speeches the leading role of the Caspian littoral states in diversifying energy supplies for Europe, "Kazakhstan today" informs. The forum was initiated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Slovenia and the Institute of Strategic Studies in order to establish and maintain a strategic dialogue on key issues between heads of both state and private sectors of Europe. Ilham Aliyev, President of Azerbaijan, Janez Jansha, Prime Minister of Slovenia, Mohammed Barkindo, Secretary General of the OPEC, Jean Lemierre, President of the EBRD, Foreign Ministers of Slovenia, Armenia, and Slovakia, Vagit Alikperov, President of OJSC "Lukoil." /Gazeta.Kz/
