According to the General Information and Press Bureau of the Ianian Foreign Ministry, on Monday in Tehran Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki met with the Head of Muslims Affairs Bureau in Caucasus Sheikh ul-Islam Allahshukur Pashazadeh.

Referring to religious and cultural commonalties between Iran and Azerbaijan, Mottaki underlined the need for further expansion of ties at different levels and for exchange of political, economic, cultural and religious delegations between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Republic of Azerbaijan.

The two sides plan should be centered on further expansion and consolidation of ties through exchange of visits between the two sides scientific and cultural officials, he pointed out.

Pashazadeh, for his part, underlined the significant role of Iran in regional developments.

"What is going on in Palestine and Lebanon is painful for all Muslims and we should try to defend the rights of the oppressed people around the globe," he said.
