"In the first half of 2006, Azerbaijani military Prosecutor's office continued the investigation into Armenian armed units committing massacre, terrorist acts, genocide and other grave crimes against innocent Azerbaijani civilians since early 1990s," Military Prosecutor Khanlar Valiyev today said in a large staff meeting on the results of the first half of 2006.

As AzerTAg reports, the military prosecutor said investigations were conducted into the episodes of torture on the basis of the list of 1,341 Azerbaijanis released from capture and 4,681 missing presented by the State Commission for prisoners of war, hostages and missing.

"Besides the testimonies given by witnesses and sufferers, 23 video materials reflecting how Azerbaijani Army servicemen as well as civilians and other persons defended by humanitarian law were subjected to severe torture and offense were added to the criminal case as material evidence.

It was proved on the basis of the lists presented by the State Commission and Khojali executive power 28 Azerbaijanis introduced as missing were killed during the Khojali genocide committed by Armenian militants and 27 were captured by Armenians on February 25-26, 1992. 43 Azerbaijanis shown as murdered in the lists of Khojali executive power turned out to have been captured or missing when the region was occupied. There will be solicitations for holding accountable commander of the 366th regiment Zargivarov Yuriy Yuriyevich, Askaran region interior department chief Gukasyan Mavrik Araratovich over involvement in committing of the Khojali genocide," the military prosecutor said.

He noted that investigations are also underway for finding the committers of the genocide against Azerbaijanis in Garadaghli village of Khojavend region on February 15-17, 1992.

"Interpol National Bureau in Azerbaijan issued notice on the committers. Besides, talks were held with Interpol officials in Baku in March 1 this year. An inquiry was sent to Russian Prosecutor's Office regarding the Khojali genocide.

In addition, the crime case on March 24, 1990, hundreds of armed Armenians from Armenia SSR Noyenberyan region attacking Azerbaijani region of Gazakh, Baganis-Ayrim village killing nine villagers, including old women, infants with special cruelty, injuring a lot of civilians, destroying their houses and deporting them was renewed on April 18 this year. 24 sufferers were interrogated. And 12 of those attacking Boganis-Ayrim village turned out to be Armenians," he underlined.
