Justice Minister of Azerbaijan Fikrat Mammadov met June 9 with Paulius Koverovas, State Secretary of the Lithuanian Ministry of Justice.
According to AzerTAg, Fikrat Mammadov stressed the importance of Lithuanian President Valdas Adamkus' visit to Azerbaijan, and said friendly relations between the two countries have enhanced during a few last years. He said Azerbaijan attaches great importance to the cooperation with Lithuania in legal sphere, adding that there are close ties between the justice authorities of the two countries. Mr. Mammadov mentioned intergovernmental agreements inked during his visit to Vilnus, and a Cooperation Program done last autumn during the visit by Lithuania’s Minister of Justice Gintautas Buzinskas to Azerbaijan. The Azerbaijani Minister said these documents created a firm legal basis for further cooperation. Paulius Koverovas, in his turn, said his country also attaches great importance to all-round cooperation with Azerbaijan, including in the legal sphere. He highly appreciated positive results of legal reforms in Azerbaijan, noting the country’s experience in this sphere is of great interest. The parties also discussed future cooperation prospects, and other topics of mutual interest. Afterwards, Paulius Koverovas familiarized himself with the Heydar Aliyev Museum and the Museum of History of Justice. Deputy Justice Minister of Azerbaijan Togrul Musayev was also present at the meeting.
