Today two-day visit of Lithuanian President Valdas Adamkus has started to Baku.

The guest visited the late Heydar Aliyev, academician Zarifa Aliyeva's graves in Honorary Avenue, and also visited Martyrs Alley, APA reports.

Then official receiving ceremony of Adamkus was held in the palace of President after which Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and President of Lithuania Valdas Adamkus met in private.

Then the meeting continued with participation of government members in broad composition. Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said that he had met with Valdas Admkus within series of international measures. Stating this is the first visit of Lithuania president to Azerbaijan as a president Ilham Aliyev said that this meeting will open new chances for the development of relations between the two countries.

"Lithuania is a member of European Union. Azerbaijan integrates European institutions. From this view point we can benefit from the experience of Lithuania."

Azerbaijani President stated the significance of development between two countries: "Business forum will be held tomorrow with participation of businessmen of two countries. All these informs of development level of the two countries."

Valdas Adamkus said that he considers his visit this time as a historic visit. "Azerbaijan can also join European Union. For that Azerbaijan must have time table for that like other candidate countries. It is natural that there are definite requirements there. In implementation of those issues Lithuania is always ready to assist Azerbaijan if any problems occur. I also propose of establishing inter countries' joint economic commission and its launch of activity."

President of Lithuania stated Azerbaijan to be reliable and powerfulally.

Intergovernmental agreement on mutual propaganda and defense of investment between two countries and joint declaration of two countries was signed. Presidents held briefing after the signing ceremony.
