According to the Ministry of Emergencies of Azerbaijan, ministers for emergencies and heads of emergency services of the member-states of the Organization of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation gathered for a meeting June 6-7 in Sochi.
The delegation of Azerbaijan is headed by Minister for Emergencies, colonel-general Kemaleddin Heydarov. In his address, Minister K. Heydarov expressed his ideas on the agenda and told of the work that has been done towards formation of the newly established Ministry of Emergencies of Azerbaijan. He expressed his confidence that expansion of cooperation will have a positive impact on the joint work. Noting that the role of the Ministry in development of industry, agriculture, and building sector is increasing K. Heydarov said that it set itself a goal of minimizing the number of emergency situations. According to him, it is possible due to improvement of the Ministry's work and cooperation with the relevant bodies of other countries. The sitting participants discussed effective emergency response and notification mechanisms, information and communication capabilities to respond to accidents and crises and eliminate the consequences of emergency situations. The sitting concentrated on the airspace monitoring technologies, using aircrafts for extinguishing the fires, providing medical services to people trapped in the disaster zones. The meeting participants signed an additional protocol to the 15 April 1998 agreement between the BSEC member countries on emergency aid cooperation during natural and man-caused disasters. The joint declaration of heads of rescue services of BSEC countries envisaged creation of the register of Black Sea region rescue forces and means, communication officers network and formation of Black Sea rescue forces, AzerTAg reports.
