Today a contract between Azerbaijan and Tajikistan on cooperation in military field has been signed.
The document was signed by Azerbaijani Defense Minister, general-colonel Safar Abiyev and Defense Minister of Tajikistan, general-colonel Sherali Kheyrullayev, APA reports. In the briefing held after the signing ceremony, Safar Abiyev stated that this is the first official visit of Tajikistan defense minister to Baku. Though Azerbaijan and Tajikistan has military cooperation within "Partnership for Peaceā Program and CIS frame, this is first step in the level of bilateral relations level." According to Minister, signing of the agreement will provide expansion of mutual cooperation in military field; it will help stability and security in South Caucasus and Central Asia region. Safar Abiyev said that several agreements will be signed between Azerbaijan and Tajikistan in military fields. Safar Abiyev added that military cooperation agreements have been signed with series of countries of the world. These are - Europe, previous USSR, as well as Eastern countries. "This kind of cooperation exists with Central Asia countries. Azerbaijan gets military techniques from Russia as well as from series of countries." Defense Minister of Tajikistan considered the signed agreement very significant; according to the agreement cooperation will be implemented between two countries in military-techniques, training and in other fields. The Minister has stated that regularly, according to the time and situation amendments will be made to the agreement.
