Today the Association of Assistance to Civil Society Development in Azerbaijan (AACSDA) and the Public Union for Defense of Rights of Migrants and IDPs in Azerbaijan held a roundtable - "Armenian invasion and damages done to Azerbaijani people".
The roundtable participants hold a debate on Armenians idle fancy of creating "Great Armenia" by occupying others' lands and damages caused to Azerbaijan as a result of this separatism, APA informs. Addressing the meeting, professor Nadir Abdullayev said that the Armenian movement which was launched for the purpose of occupying Nagorno Garabagh led to the death of 20,000 Azerbaijanis, hundred thousands becoming disabled and thousands being captured. This invasion did damage in the amount of $60 billion to the country economy. As a result of Armenian aggression, 20% of Azerbaijan's territories remain under occupation. There are over one million refugees and IDPs in the country. In the period from the launch of the separatist Armenian movement till 1994, more than 46,000 families were displaced from West Azerbaijan and 142,994 families from the current occupied Azerbaijani territories. Totally over one million Azerbaijanis were displaced from their homes by force during this period. According to statistics, there were 150 thousand private houses in total 9.1 million sq. meters area in the territories, which are under occupation currently. Editor of newspaper "Golos Karabakha", Gadir Nasirov talked about the material damage to Azerbaijan and Azerbaijanis caused by Armenians. He said that Armenians destroyed 310 big industrial and building establishments, nearly 5,000 commercial and public catering establishments, 5331 social service centers, nearly 600 comprehensive schools, 250 kindergartens, 65 technical schools, 2 higher schools, 75 healthcare establishments, 520 city and village cultural houses and circles, 735 libraries in cities, regions and villages, 6 parks, 47 children musical schools, 3 theatre buildings, 4 art galleries, 470 historic monuments, 40 thousand things of historic importance, reserve of 4.6-million books, 647.9 thousand hectares of fertile soils as well as perennial herbs in62 thousand hectares, vineyards in 50 thousand hectares, 7300 hydro-engineering plants, 36 pumping stations, 26 irrigation systems, substations and transformers in ten thousands kilometers, motor roads in 4000 kilometers, Baku-Nakhchivan-Yerevan railway and four airports. "The cost of damages caused to Azerbaijan's economy as a result of Armenian aggression works out at over $60 billion. It is impossible to complete the list of damages even if adding Armenian damages to our environment, ecology, historic and religious monuments, underground and above ground resources into the list. The cost of total damage to Azerbaijan works out at more than $12 billion," the reporter said. The editor stressed the importance of setting up a special commission to make exact calculation of these damages. AACSDA vice-president said that our refugees from Armenia will be appealed in the framework of a new project soon. The roundtable participants adopted an appeal to President Ilham Aliyev. The appeals asks calculation of damages caused to Azerbaijanis and establishing a special state commission for documenting the damages under international rules to raise the issue at the international court.
