Russian Embassy in Azerbaijan told APA that prior to this appointment, Mr.Istratov held a position of Deputy Director of the North America Department in Russian Foreign Ministry.

He worked in several posts in Russia's diplomatic missions abroad at different periods. This is his first appointment as an Ambassador.

The Ambassador is due to take up his duties in late June or early July.
