Human Rights Committee of the Council of Europe met in Strasbourg.

The meeting discussed the matters relating implementation of the documents adopted at 114th session of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe, on human rights in high cultured society, human rights protection in combating the terrorism, national minorities, and preparing report on further activity of the Committee.

Murad Najafov, Chief of Department for International Law & Treaties of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs represented Azerbaijan.

Taking into consideration the importance of ratification of 14th Protocol on Amendments to Control System to the European Convention on Human Rights until 116 session of the Committee of Ministers scheduled for May, 2006, the meeting said about taken the relevant steps for clarification due to regulations in Member States of the Council of Europe.

The meeting said that 36 Member States of the Council of Europe have already ratified 14th Protocol, but 10 States are delaying with it.

Murad Najafov attached importance to the fact that Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan has already ratified this Protocol.

Protocol is to enter into force unless other Member States ratify it.
