18 February 2006 [08:59] - Today.Az
The European Parliament discussed an Armenian appeal on destruction of alleged "Armenian monuments" in Julfa, Nakhchivan and adopted a resolution accusing Azerbaijan of the incident.

As APA reports, the resolution reads that these so-called destructions happened during the Nagorno Garabagh Conflict and the European Union is ready to resolve the problem peacefully. Armenian sources spread information that official Baku denied destruction of the monuments and did not allow independent observers to visit Nakhchivan and see firsthand the situation under discussion.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Tahir Tagizade told that Azerbaijan had not been received such a request as Armenia has claimed: "Armenian Diaspora representatives cannot visit Azerbaijan as independent observers".

Mr. Tagizade added that Azerbaijan will send a protest letter to the European Parliament: "However, we have not received any official document from European Parliament".

Armenians intend to raise the question of "Armenian monuments" vis-?-vis UNESCO.
