The Saudi government donated $50,000 for the implementation of the project on demining of houses and attached territory in Terter and Agstafa districts of Azerbaijan.
A ceremony of presentation was held at the office of the Azerbaijan National Agency for Mine Action (ANAMA) on Wednesday, Trend informs. It comes as the first stage of cooperation between the Saudi government and ANAMA Nazim Ismayilov, the Director of ANAMA, said. One of the aspect of the problem of mined areas in Azerbaijan, which concerns larger areas, is high number of houses and facilities, particularly dwelling buildings. ANAMA has received 24 appeals on such facts. The Saudi government’s assistance will be directed at demining of mines and unexploded ordinances. The head of ANAMA said that mines and unexploded ordinances remain to be an urgent problem of the Azerbaijani government in this stage and after the liberation of the areas. Azerbaijan needs assurance of donor-countries for the resolution of this problem. He thanked the Saudi Ambassador to Azerbaijan, Ali Hassan Jafar, for such an initiative. In his turn the Saudi Ambassador said that his country was one of the major donors in the resolution of a problem of demining of mined areas and over the past few years has been actively working in Balkans, Lebanon, Iraq and other countries. The Saudi diplomat stressed his country’s strong intention to become an active donor for Azerbaijan in future.
